7 Key Benefits of Working With a B Corp Certified Company

Why Work With a B Corp?

The B Corp logo is appearing on more websites, proposals and email signatures than ever before. With more than 3,000 certified B Corps across the UK, it has become a recognised mark of businesses committed to high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability.

But what does that actually mean for the companies, candidates and partners who choose to work with a B Corp?

Over the last two years, our certification has helped shape the way we operate, from how we support our people and engage with our communities to how we work with clients and candidates every day.

B Corp certification has connected us with a wider community of like-minded businesses. As our Director of Development, Claire Torrington explains:

“What surprised us most wasn’t the certification itself, but the support that came with it. We’ve built relationships with other B Corps as clients, suppliers and peers, and there’s a genuine willingness to share ideas, offer advice and help each other succeed.”

While the certification itself is significant, what matters most is the impact behind it. Rather than focusing solely on what a B Corp is, we’re looking at what working with one really means in practice and the tangible benefits it can bring.

What B Corp Certification Means

The B Corp badge only has value if you understand what’s behind it. Many people assume it’s a membership scheme or a self-declared standard. When we first certified in 2024, certification required businesses to undergo a rigorous assessment covering governance, employees, community impact, environmental performance and customer responsibility.B Corp certification plaque displayed in an office highlighting environmental and social performance standards.

To become certified, a company must have achieved a minimum score of 80 points on the B Impact Assessment. According to B Lab, the average business scored around 51 points, making certification a meaningful benchmark rather than a simple accreditation exercise.

As of 2026, B Lab are assessing businesses to a new and improved set of standards that aims to raise expectations of what responsible business looks like, moving away from point-scoring and towards meaningful action on the social and environmental issues that matter most. Read more about the new standards here.

Certification is also not permanent. Businesses must recertify every three years and continue demonstrating their commitment across all areas of the assessment. That ongoing scrutiny helps ensure certification reflects sustained performance rather than a one-off achievement.

1. Verified Commitments, Not Just Good Intentions

Most organisations have company values, but B Corp certified companies must back those values up with evidence.

During the certification process, independent assessors examine how a business operates across multiple areas to verify that its policies, practices and commitments are genuinely embedded throughout the organisation. This gives clients and candidates confidence that the business meets recognised standards rather than simply making claims about its values.

As organisations face growing pressure to demonstrate their impact, this level of accountability becomes increasingly important. Independent assessment helps stakeholders trust that a company is delivering on its commitments, not just talking about them.

2. Governance That Considers More Than Profit

For partners and clients, this can help create stronger, more balanced relationships built around long-term success rather than short-term gains. It encourages businesses to think beyond immediate commercial outcomes and consider the wider impact of their decisions.

That broader stakeholder mindset often extends beyond individual businesses and into the wider B Corp community. One of the unexpected benefits we’ve experienced at Hunter Selection has been the opportunity to connect with organisations that share similar values and approaches to business. Rather than purely transactional relationships, many of those connections have developed into genuine partnerships built on collaboration and shared learning.

3. Why Staff Retention Matters

One of the clearest indicators of a healthy business is how well it retains its people, as recruiters – we would know!

Research comparing UK B Corps with the wider SME population found that B Corps reported average staff attrition rates of around 10%, compared with approximately 16-20% across the wider SME population. This is a significant difference for service-based businesses. Lower staff turnover often means stronger relationships, greater continuity and teams that develop deeper expertise over time. Clients gain continuity and expertise, while employees receive support and development.

At Hunter Selection, our employee-owned structure strengthens this further. Employees have a genuine stake in the business through our Employee Benefits Trust, helping to create a culture built around long-term commitment and shared success. Find out more about our approach.

4. Environmental AccountabilityEmployee painting an outdoor fence as part of a volunteering and community engagement project.

Environmental responsibility plays a central role in the B Corp assessment process. To achieve certification, companies must demonstrate their environmental practices and provide evidence of continuous improvement.

Organisations with their own sustainability goals often gain additional confidence from working with certified partners. B Corp certification shows that businesses actively consider their environmental impact and measure their performance against recognised standards.

While recruitment businesses naturally have a smaller environmental footprint than many manufacturing or industrial organisations, certification still requires documented policies, measurable actions and ongoing review. The result is an evidence-based approach rather than simply making environmental claims without accountability.

5. A Track Record of Sustainable Growth

One of the biggest misconceptions about responsible business is that purpose comes at the expense of performance. Recent B Lab UK data tells a different story. Between 2023 and 2024, small and medium-sized UK B Corps recorded average turnover growth of 23.2%, compared with 16.8% nationally, while employee headcount increased by 9.6% against a national decline of 0.5%.

While certification alone doesn’t drive growth, these figures suggest that businesses focused on long-term value, accountability and stakeholder engagement can perform strongly commercially as well. For clients and candidates, that can be a positive signal. Growing businesses are often investing in their people, improving services and continually developing how they operate.

6. Stronger Talent Attraction

Purpose, culture and values have become increasingly important factors in career decisions. For employers competing for highly skilled talent, demonstrating a genuine commitment to responsible business practices can help set them apart in a competitive market. CEO of Co-operatives UK, Rose Marley says:

Gen Z wants to reshape the future of work, demanding that businesses prioritise people, planet, and purpose over pure profit. Younger people want their work to be meaningful and impactful. They aspire for a better world – and clearly want to do something about it.

B Corp certification provides independent validation of those commitments, giving candidates greater confidence that an organisation’s values are reflected in how it operates.

7. Building Long-Term Trust

Any organisation can perform well when circumstances are straightforward. The real test comes when businesses face difficult decisions. Companies that build accountability, transparency and stakeholder consideration into their operations can navigate challenges more effectively while maintaining trust with employees, clients and partners.

Trust isn’t built through statements or certifications alone. It’s built through consistent actions, relationships and accountability over time. That’s one of the reasons the B Corp framework resonates so strongly with us. It creates opportunities for businesses to learn from one another, challenge themselves to improve and remain focused on long-term impact rather than short-term outcomes.

B Corp certification doesn’t guarantee perfection, but it does provide a framework that encourages responsible decision-making and continuous improvement.Large group of employees standing together by the seaside during a company team-building and culture event.

What Our Clients Say

The benefits of B Corp certification aren’t just recognised internally. Increasingly, they’re influencing how businesses choose their suppliers and partners.

Technical Director Yusra  Shaeik at fellow B Corp and Bristol based MSP Dial-a-Geek explains:

“B Corp status matters to us when we’re choosing who to work with. We’re a certified B Corp and Living Wage Employer, and we care about doing business with companies that actually walk the talk on ethics, not just tick a box.

It gives us confidence that a supplier takes their responsibilities seriously, from how they treat staff to their environmental impact. We think more businesses should factor it into their supplier decisions.”

This reflects a broader shift in how organisations evaluate potential partners. Cost, quality and expertise remain essential, but businesses are increasingly looking at how suppliers operate, treat their people and contribute to the wider world around them. For B Corps, certification provides an independent benchmark that helps build that trust from the outset.

What Two Years of B Corp Certification Means to Hunter Selection

Employees collaborating in a meeting room during a team discussion and training session. As we celebrate our second anniversary as a certified B Corp, we’re proud to be part of a growing community of businesses that believe commercial success and positive impact should go hand in hand. The last two years have reinforced our belief that doing the right thing for people and communities goes hand in hand with business success.

Certification has provided a framework to measure our impact, challenge ourselves to improve and hold ourselves accountable. As an employee-owned business, many of these principles were already embedded in our culture. Becoming a B Corp helped formalise those commitments and benchmark them against internationally recognised standards.

Reflecting on the journey so far, our Director of Development believes one of the biggest benefits has been the relationships that have come from being part of the B Corp movement:

“Being a B Corp has been far more than a certification for us. It’s opened doors to relationships, conversations and opportunities that probably wouldn’t have happened otherwise.”

As we prepare for recertification, it’s a good opportunity to take stock of what we’ve achieved over the past two years and look at where we can continue to improve. There are always areas to build on, and that’s ultimately what the B Corp journey is all about.

While we’re looking forward to the challenge of recertification, we’re equally grateful for the support that’s helped us along the way. Experienced advisers and a strong B Corp network have shown us that success comes not only from healthy competition, but also from collaboration.

Two years on, we’re as committed as ever to building a business that creates long-term value for everyone connected to Hunter.

Questions to Ask Before Choosing a B Corp Partner

B Corp certification can be a useful indicator, but it shouldn’t be the only factor in your decision.

Ask how long a company has held certification, what its B Impact Assessment score is and how it is continuing to improve. Look at how the business treats its employees, approaches sustainability and engages with clients and communities. B Corps must produce an annual impact report which they need to make available to all stakeholders, with many publishing it on their website. So be sure to ask a company for their latest impact report. Take a look at our latest impact report here.

The strongest B Corps are those whose actions consistently reflect the values they promote.

What This Means When Choosing a Recruitment Partner

The benefits of working with a B Corp certified company go beyond the certification itself. They can be seen in stronger governance, greater accountability, improved employee retention and a commitment to continuous improvement.

The data points in a clear direction. B Corp businesses retain employees at higher rates than many of their peers. They also attract candidates who actively seek purpose-led employers. Many have demonstrated strong growth across the UK economy. Our clients tell us that certification provides added confidence. It shows a commitment to high standards, from employee wellbeing to environmental responsibility. For clients, it means partnering with a business that has undergone independent assessment. For candidates, it means working with an organisation that values people as much as performance.

The process challenges us to keep improving, ensuring that the standards we commit to today continue to shape how we operate in the future.

The logo is important, but it’s the actions behind it that matter most. For us, that’s what two years of B Corp certification represents and why we believe working with a certified B Corp can make a meaningful difference.
