A Year of Giving Back

How Our Teams Made a Difference

This year, our Hunter teams came together through a series of Give Back Days, supporting charities, community groups, and initiatives close to our hearts. From hands-on volunteering to skills-based support and fundraising, each activity reflected our commitment to creating positive social and environmental impact beyond the workplace.

Here’s a look back at the difference we made together.

Greenslade Pre-School

Greenslade Pre-School is a charity-run early years setting local to our Portishead office. Its mission is to provide a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment where children can learn, play, and thrive, regardless of background. As a non-profit organisation, Greenslade relies heavily on community support and volunteers to maintain its facilities and outdoor learning spaces.

This year, our Bristol Engineering & Manufacturing team supported Greenslade with essential maintenance work, including sanding and repainting outdoor play equipment, relaying borders, cutting back trees and bushes, and clearing gutters ahead of winter.

“On behalf of all the staff and children at Greenslade Preschool I would like to pass on our thanks for the fantastic work you and your team did yesterday…
As a Charity run Preschool we feel that the outdoor areas have never looked so good! Without your teams time and help both physically and financially the much needed work would never have got done. Our children were incredible excited to go out this morning and play in the newly painted Wendy House. One of our children commented ‘It looks beautiful’. A very big thank you from us all at Greenslade Preschool.”

— Emma Kingdon, Nursery Leader

Becka Kingdon, Team Manager, reflected on the day:

“This year our give back day was a bit different to what we’ve done previously, it felt really personal… The jobs we completed to us felt small but to them were huge!”

Clevedon Lions Club

Clevedon Lions Club, part of Lions Clubs International, exists to support people in need within the local community through practical action, fundraising, and volunteering. Their work spans environmental projects, youth engagement, and community wellbeing initiatives.

Members of our Finance team joined the Lions’ weekly family litter pick, which aims to encourage young people to take pride in their environment while making a visible difference to local spaces.

“Clevedon Lions were delighted to be joined by 3 lovely ladies from Hunter Selection based in Portishead…
On the week Hunter joined us we collected 14 bags of litter, making the area around our local leisure centre a nicer place to be and hopefully encourage folk to take their litter home. Once again, thank you so much ladies for your support.”

— Sue Miller, Clevedon Lions Club

Finance Manager Gemma Marshall shared her experience:

“The Strode leisure fields are not that large but I was shocked at the amount of litter that builds up over a few days…
The locals walking their dogs, families picnicking with kids and others we passed were all extremely thankful and grateful for the work done by the volunteers.”

Keep Cardiff Tidy

Keep Cardiff Tidy, part of Keep Wales Tidy, works to protect the environment and improve the quality of local places across Wales. Their mission is to inspire communities to care for their

surroundings through litter reduction, green space improvement, and sustainability education.

As part of The Big Cardiff Tidy, our Cardiff team joined a clean-up in Llandaff Fields, collecting six bags of litter in just a few hours.

“This year’s Big Cardiff Tidy was a great success… As part of the campaign, a dedicated team from Hunter joined forces to litter-pick in Llandaff Fields…
Thanks to the combined efforts of partners and volunteers across Cardiff, The Big Cardiff Tidy delivered 114 clean-up activities, engaged more than 800 volunteers, and resulted in the collection of 1,165 bags of litter.”

— Gareth Davies, Keep Wales Tidy

Smart Works Bristol

Smart Works Bristol, part of Smart Works, empowers unemployed women by providing high-quality interview clothing, personalised coaching, and career support. Their mission is to help women feel confident, capable, and prepared to succeed in interviews and re-enter the workforce.

Ellie Rialas, Digital Media Specialist, used her Give Back Day to volunteer her professional filming and editing skills at the charity’s launch event at the Bristol Old Vic.

“I had the privilege of filming and conducting interviews at the SmartWorks Bristol launch at the Bristol Old Vic…
It was so great meeting so many amazing people helping to make a real impact to unemployed women in Bristol.”

Ellie Rialas, Digital Media Specialist

Smart Works Bristol highlighted the long-term value of Ellie’s support:

“Thank you for your valuable support at the launch of our charity…
Using these marketing resources we will be better able to expand our service and reach our target of helping 1,000 unemployed women in the next three years. We are grateful for your commitment, professionalism, and positive impact on our community.”

— Kate Murphy, Trustee Chair

Clevedon & District Foodbank

Clevedon & District Foodbank, part of The Trussell Trust, provides emergency food support to individuals and families facing financial hardship. Their mission goes beyond food provision — offering dignity, compassion, and access to further support when people need it most.

Hunter’s Service & Sales team supported the foodbank this winter by packing 300 food hampers of varying sizes, from single-person households to large families.

Portishead Youth & Community Centre

Portishead Youth & Community Centre supports young people and the wider community by providing a safe, welcoming space for activities, learning, and connection. With limited resources, the centre relies on volunteers and partnerships to maintain its facilities and deliver essential services.

Our IT & Digital and Science & Technology teams spent the day sanding, painting, and refreshing the building.

“The volunteers from Hunter Selection helped us with updating the paintwork at our busy youth and community centre…
Having a well presented, tidy and welcoming building makes a difference to those that visit us as they feel valued and cared for from as soon as they step in the door.”

— Kim Jones, Head of Centre and Youth Provision

Rob Baxter added:

“We had a rewarding Give Back Day at the Portishead Youth and Community Centre on Friday… It was lovely to be able to contribute to our local community and the team did a fantastic job.”

Ablaze

Ablaze works to improve life chances for young people by connecting education, employers, and communities. Through its employability and skills programmes, Ablaze helps students build confidence, workplace skills, and real-world experience — particularly those facing barriers to employment.

Our Managing Director, Russell Smith, used his give back day to support Ablaze by sharing insights into recruitment and employer expectations.

“A big thanks to Hunter Selection | B Corp™ for hosting… and sharing some impactful insights into recruitment and what employers are really looking for in new candidates.”
— Richard Herborn, Ablaze

Russell reflected:

“Working with the charity Ablaze… I was introduced to 2 young people who were having difficulties re-entering the workforce… Both were incredibly inspirational and just needed some guidance… but will make great employees somewhere soon.”
