An exciting opportunity has arisen for a skilled and proactive Controls Engineer to join a growing automation and systems integration team based in Cheltenham. The ideal candidate will be responsible for delivering complete control system solutions, with a strong emphasis on programming PLCs and HMIs from the ground up. This role suits someone who thrives in a hands-on engineering environment and has a passion for solving complex automation challenges.

Role & Responsibilities:

Design, develop, and implement control systems, including programming of PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA systems from scratch.
Create detailed electrical and control system schematics using CAD software.
Conduct site visits for commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting of automation systems.
Collaborate with mechanical and electrical design teams to ensure seamless integration of control systems.
Interpret client specifications and translate them into effective control system solutions.
Support project lifecycle from concept through to completion, including FAT and SAT procedures.
Maintain accurate documentation of software and system changes

Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

Proven experience in PLC and HMI programming from scratch (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Mitsubishi, or similar platforms).
Solid understanding of industrial control systems, automation architecture, and electrical principles.
Experience with fieldbus communications (e.g., Profibus, Profinet, Ethernet/IP).
Ability to read and produce electrical/control schematics.
Willingness to travel occasionally for site commissioning (International).
Excellent problem-solving abilities and strong attention to detail.
Right to work in the UK.
